2013 NFL Draft Quarterback Rankings

Friday, February 1st, 2013

Even though he skipped the Senior Bowl, Geno Smith is still the top quarterback in the class (Photo: Staff Writer: Justin Higdon

Here at we frequently update the site rankings as we gather more information.  The goal of those rankings is to attempt to determine how the Browns will value the players in this draft class based on team needs and the plans of the new coaching staff.  As we present these rankings we are commonly asked how we, personally, would rank the players for the 2013 NFL Draft.  For example, the Browns may not feel that Florida State defensive end Bjoern Werner is a good fit for Ray Horton’s defense, while I might think Werner is the best player in the draft.  I don’t.  That’s just an example.  But you catch my drift.  Now that the bowl season is over, underclassmen have officially declared, and I have returned from trips to the East-West Shrine Game and Senior Bowls, it seems like the perfect time to unveil my own personal preliminary draft rankings… (more…)

With one week between now and the Super Bowl, I feel that it’s time for me to come out with my first mock draft of the pre-draft process.  Please keep in mind that rather than posting what I would do in the given situations, I am predicting what the teams will do using the information at my disposal. 2013 Senior Bowl Day Two Practice Notes: South

Day Two of the South team’s practice started out broken into positional groups, with running backs doing some footwork drills.  It was largely uneventful until Stanford’s Stepfan Taylor tripped over one of the pads.  Taylor recovered to have a terrific day running the ball, displaying excellent vision and burst through the holes in breaking a couple of long runs.  His South teammate, Florida’s Mike Gillislee had a strong day as well, cutting on a dime to break a big gainer.  Both backs caught the ball well in drills and have three down, starting running back potential at the NFL level. 2013 Senior Bowl Day One Practice Notes

Mike Glennon and the North Team quarterbacks had a shaky Day One (Photo: Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports) Staff Writer: Justin Higdon

Prior to the North Team practice, much of the buzz surrounded the quarterback trio of North Carolina State’s Mike Glennon, Ryan Nassib of Syracuse, and Miami Ohio’s Zac Dysert.  Unfortunately, none of the three really impressed.  Glennon, who measured in at nearly 6’7 inches tall earlier in the day, had the strongest arm of the three and was the most consistent.  But all three struggled at times, throwing the ball behind receivers, sailing throws high, and getting intercepted.  Dysert threw two bad picks along the sideline that both could have been returned for a touchdown.  Nassib was intercepted by Boise State cornerback Jamar Taylor on a deep pass intended for Marshall wide receiver Aaron Dobson, and followed that up by throwing a complete pass that forced Oregon State’s Markus Wheaton to reach back for the ball.  Toward the end of practice the three took turns rolling left and throwing to the back of the end zone while on the move.  All three made some nice throws during the drill, but Dysert – who looked good while throwing on the run during his college career – punctuated a rough afternoon by tripping over his own feet and falling to the turf.  Now that the nerves are out of the way, the quarterbacks will look to have a better day tomorrow.
