“It’s All Smoke” and 5th Year Options

The Browns might draft a Quarterback high next week, but that won’t deter Brian Hoyer from living his dream. (photo:

I’m trying Johnny fans, I really am.  But every time I put the blinders on and block out the typical pre-draft noise hitting me square in the face, someone somewhere will say something that gives me serious doubts about the likelihood of the Browns taking a quarterback with the 4th overall pick in the draft.

As we round the curve and prepare to sprint down the final stretch before next week’s NFL Draft, more and more key figures in Berea are voicing their opinions and philosophies regarding the question that EVERYONE has on their minds… “When are you going to FINALLY address the Quarterback position?”  (more…)

Draft Thoughts: One Month Out

Tuesday, April 8th, 2014

Who can it be now? With a month to go, the Browns have everyone guessing. (photo: Contributor:  Ryan Alton

We are one month away!  I’m too exciting to sleep!  Actually, on the contrary, sleep is about all I wish I could do for the next 30 days in order to avoid the over-saturation of analysis and second-guessing that is sure to permeate the Twittersphere.  I suppose I could have stuck to my promise and stayed off Twitter through Easter which would’ve brought me back just in time for the final stretch, when things are bound to be getting good. But where’s the fun in that?  I can’t help but think of all the good times I would’ve missed… “Pro Day Gate”, Cavs vs. Browns, Indians fans vs. everyone, grandstanding over Chief Wahoo and the Sin Tax, and of course, Grossi Mocks 3.0 through 9.7.  (Hey Tony!  Dewey Decimal has gone the way of the Fullback.  Just sayin.  #100YearsWar) (more…)

Tales From Free Agency: Alex Mack and Other Stories

Are the Browns holding Alex Mack hostage with the Transition Tag? Or is it the other way around? (photo:

Greetings from Absentia!  As many of you probably know, I had taken leave of Twitter for the sake of Lent but I couldn’t possibly sit idle without weighing in on All Things Browns as free agency simmers to a low boil.  Honestly, being the non-practicing Catholic that I am, I’m finding this whole Lent thing isn’t all it’s cracked up to be and I’m fairly certain my pathetic attempt at suddenly discovering Will Power will soon cede to the forces of not-so-hot sports takes, sarcastic quips and hashtags.  It’s only a matter of time.  Until then, I remain ever thankful I still have a forum to espouse my thoughts.  So on with it… (more…)

Another End of Season’s Greetings

Maybe God hates Cleveland because Browns fans still believe in Santa. Just sayin. Contributor: Ryan Alton

Well, here we are again.  It seems like only yesterday I was outlining my first post for our newly-minted site here at  It was about a year ago (December 21st, to be exact) and one of my first ventures was to project the outlook for the latest “most crucial off-season in Cleveland Browns history”.  That one, coming after the grim and disappointing end to the Randy Lerner via Mike Holmgren Era, where a change at the top would lead to systematic upheaval in every facet of the organization.  As has been the case far too often in Brownstown, change was needed and change was indeed coming. “Godfather” Offer Made Richardson Trade a No-Brainer

Thursday, September 19th, 2013

Trent Richardson could never quite get going during his time with the Browns (Photo: Staff Writer: Justin Higdon

When Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay tweets, people inexplicably listen.  The brash showman’s 140 character transmissions range from classic rock lyrics to incoherent ramblings, but on Wednesday he drew attention when he teased news of a big trade.  It was easy to brush off, but fun to speculate.  Who was Irsay trumpeting?  Surely his “monster” pickup would never live up to the hype.  After all, NFL trades – at least major NFL trades – rarely happen in season.  The twitter community was no doubt drafting thousands of snide remarks and hi-LAR-ious jokes preparing for the letdown of an official announcement.  But Jimmy Irsay won this round. QB Is In the Eye of the Beholder

Friday, August 2nd, 2013

Can Brandon Weeden be ‘The Guy’ in 2013 and beyond? Opinions are mixed, to say the least. (photo:

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  I suppose the same can be said for what makes a promising quarterback in the NFL.  Over the past few days, the national media has descended upon Berea to check out the latest incarnation of the Cleveland Browns.  As is with every team, the quarterback was the hot topic of discussion.  Unfortunately for the Browns, it always seems like its for the wrong reasons.
